Planet Crafter: Mammals Stage

The Mammals stage officially begins at 1.25 TTi with the unlocking of the animal shelter.

Genetic traits can be collected from a variety of sources and mixed and matched to produce unique creature DNA for breeding animals. The creature DNA is inserted into an animal shelter then the creature will start roaming near the shelter. Eventually, some animals will appear in the wild too. You can also pet wild or tame animals and have a chance to obtain a random genetic trait (more likely if they are hungry or you haven't petted them recently).

Animal feeders give an animal multiplier bonus and increase their rate of growth (animals spawn at 40% growth and it takes ages for them to reach 100% growth and their maximum size without food). T2 animal food has a greater benefit than T1 animal food.

The essential requirements for creating a DNA sample are:

  • species
  • colour A (base colour)
  • colour B (top colour)

 Optional attributes include:

  • skin pattern
  • skin pattern colour (only visible if skin pattern is set)
  • species variant (adds features like horns or spikes)
  • bioluminescence (glows in the dark)
  • size

For more information on appearance and source of genetic traits see below (many traits can also be obtained from Procedural Wreck crates and petting)

Species Variant

These traits seem to be rather rare and I have only found them in crates (mostly procedural wreck crates) or by petting animals. Each species has its own unique variants.

Species 1 (Land Shark):

  1. Variant 1 (horns)
  2. Variant 2 (nodules)
  3. Variant 3 (horns and nodules)
  4. Variant 4 (antlers)
  5. Variant 5 (antlers and spikes)

Species 1 Variants

Species 2 (Space Cat):

  1. Variant 1 (spine spikes)
  2. Variant 2 (2 ears)
  3. Variant 3 (2 ears and spine spikes)
  4. Variant 4 (4 ears)
  5. Variant 5 (4 ears and spine spikes)

Species 2 Variants

Species 3 (Deer):

  1. Variant 1 (horns)
  2. Variant 2 (fishtail horn)
  3. Variant 3 (spine spikes)
  4. Variant 4 (fishtail horn and spine spikes)
  5. Variant 5 (horns and spine spikes)

Species 3 Variants

Species 4 (Beetles):

  1. Variant 1 (tusks)
  2. Variant 2 (horn and comb antennae)
  3. Variant 3 (horn)
  4. Variant 4 (comb antennae and wing shield)
  5. Variant 5 (horn and wing shield)

Species 4 Variants

Species 5 (Wildebeest):

  1. Variant 1 (long horns)
  2. Variant 2 (short horns)
  3. Variant 3 (spikes)
  4. Variant 4 (crown horns)
  5. Variant 5 (long horns and shoulder plates)

Species 5 Variants

Bioluminescence (glows in the dark)

  1. Bioluminescence 1 (dim) - from Golden Seed
  2. Bioluminescence 2 - from Golden Frog Eggs
  3. Bioluminescence 3 - from Golden Butterfly Larva
  4. Bioluminescence 4 - from Golden Fish Eggs
  5. Bioluminescence 5 - from Magnetar Quartz (purple)
  6. Bioluminescence 6 - from Quasar Quartz (green)
  7. Bioluminescence 7 - from Procedural Wreck Crates
  8. Bioluminescence 8 - from Procedural Wreck Crates
  9. Bioluminescence 9 - from Procedural Wreck Crates
  10. Bioluminescence 10 (bright) - from Procedural Wreck Crates

Notes:

  • In update 1.209, the bioluminescence traits were reduced in intensity so 10 Bioluminescence isn't as bright any more.
  • With no skin pattern selected, there is minimal difference in appearance between a creature with no bioluminescence or high bioluminescence.
  • With a skin pattern selected, but no bioluminescence, the pattern is quite hard to see in the dark. With bioluminescence, the pattern is easier to see but there isn't much difference between 3 bioluminescence and 9 bioluminescence.

 Size

  1. Size 1 (small) - from Common Larva
  2. Size 2 - from Uncommon Larva
  3. Size 3 - from Volnus Plant
  4. Size 4 - from Procedural Wreck Crates
  5. Size 5 (huge) - from Procedural Wreck Crates
Compared at 100% growth (full grown)

Goals:

  • Create lots of animals and animal shelters! Pet all the animals!
  • Use the portal to visit procedural wrecks to try and get rare genetic traits.
  • It can take awhile to get from 1.25 TTi to 5 TTi. Build more rockets and machine optimizers!
